Choosing a phone case that suits how you carry it
A phone case is the one accessory you touch a few hundred times a day, which is why the useful question is not how protective it is but how it changes the way you carry your phone. A wallet case removes a second object from your pocket. A crossbody strap frees both hands. A clear case keeps the phone looking like the phone. Each of those is a different daily habit, and each one suits a different person.
What all of ours share is the fit. Each case is cut for a single model generation rather than stretched across three, so the button presses stay crisp, the port cutout clears a chunky cable, and the camera ring sits high enough that the lens never touches the table. The materials are chosen for how they look after six months of pocket lint and keys rather than how they look in the box.
Picking the right one
If you carry cards, start with wallet phone cases. If you use magnetic chargers, mounts or wallets, start with MagSafe phone cases. Not sure which matters more? The phone case buying guide compares all five styles side by side.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most protective type of phone case?
The most protective phone cases combine a soft TPU inner layer with a rigid polycarbonate shell, plus raised edges around the screen and camera. That construction absorbs the impact and keeps the two most fragile surfaces off the ground.
Does a phone case make wireless charging slower?
A phone case does not make wireless charging slower as long as it is under about 3mm thick and has no metal plate inside. Thick, heavily armoured cases and cases with metal ring mounts can interrupt charging entirely.
How often should I replace a phone case?
You should replace a phone case when the corners have gone soft, the edges no longer sit above the screen, or a clear case has yellowed. For most people that is every twelve to eighteen months of daily use.
Will a case for the Pro model fit the standard model?
No, a case for a Pro model will not fit the standard model of the same generation. The camera arrays are different sizes and the bodies differ by a few millimetres, so the cutouts will not line up.
How do I clean a phone case?
You clean a phone case with warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft brush, then let it dry fully before putting the phone back in. Avoid alcohol wipes on clear cases, which accelerate yellowing.
