14-inch or 16-inch Pro: the year matters

Apple redesigned the MacBook Pro in 2021. The 14" and 16" models from that year on have a flatter body with an HDMI port and SD slot on the side, and they are a different shape from the older 13.3" and 15" Pros. A case for one generation will not fit the other.

To check yours, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The first line shows the model, screen size and year, for example "MacBook Pro, 14-inch, 2023". These cases are not made for the older 15" MacBook Pro.

Which MacBook Pro models do these cases fit?

These cases fit the MacBook Pro 13.3-inch from 2020 to 2022 and the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch from 2021 and later. They do not fit the MacBook Pro 15-inch or older bodies.

How do I find out which MacBook Pro I have?

Open the Apple menu in the top-left corner and choose About This Mac. The first line shows the model, screen size and year.

Can I still use the HDMI port and SD card slot?

Yes. On the 14-inch and 16-inch Pro, the cut-outs leave the HDMI port, SD slot, MagSafe and USB-C ports open.

Does a clear case trap heat?

The bottom shell has vent openings and leaves the Pro's air intakes free, so it does not block airflow in normal use.
